We recently took on another sporting challenge. This time, things got a lot more serious and intense than on the golf course, the padel or tennis court, or the petanque pitch. Our colleague Agata teaches Kyokushinkai karate in Hoogvliet. She invited (read: challenged 😅) us to learn the basics of this great sport.

To be honest, most of us were already seeing stars during the warm-up. Clearly, we are not used to much. After a short breather, we learned arm and leg techniques (Kihon) for both attack and defence. For the rest of the lesson, we got to try them out on each other.

What stayed with us most was the passion with which Agata taught us the basics of karate. And how much mental and physical strength it takes. A few grazed knuckles and bruises later 🥴, we ended the evening Japanese style, with sushi. A smashing evening, in every sense of the word!
