Sealing with pliers, lead seals and sealing wire has been used for decades on meters, installations and equipment. The wire can be cut to any length, and a crimped seal shows at a glance whether anything has been opened. Navacqs supplies all components separately and as a complete set.
Navacqs supplies two types of sealing pliers:
NZT-1P: crimps lead, plastic and aluminium seals, with a 10 or 12 mm die.
Roll Tin Sealing Plier NZT-2: rolls metal roll tin seals around the wire.
Both can be engraved with text or a logo. The engraving is pressed into the seal with every use.
Sealing wire is made of braided steel wire that cannot slide once the seal is crimped. The right wire depends on the application:
galvanised wire for general use
stainless steel wire for damp areas
thin wire with a low breaking strength for fire extinguishers and emergency buttons, which can be broken by hand
Sealing wire is available on a spool or pre-cut in bundles.
For getting started, a set is available with sealing pliers, a spool of sealing wire and lead or plastic seals. Sealing without pliers is possible with the Twist Seal, a plastic seal with wire and a unique number.
Sealing pliers crimp a seal around sealing wire. The wire first passes through the opening to be sealed, for example on a meter or cabinet, and then through the seal. The pliers then clamp the seal shut. Once closed, it cannot be opened without visible damage.
There are five main types:
Lead seals are soft and give a sharp impression.
Plastic seals come in several colours for quick identification.
Aluminium seals are harder and more resistant to weather and moisture.
Hand seals are closed by hand, without pliers.
Roll tin seals are rolled around the wire with a dedicated plier.
Gas and electricity meters are sealed by or on behalf of the energy supplier or network operator. Removing or replacing the seal is reserved for authorised engineers. As the exact rules differ per country, the local network operator or meter operator is the right point of contact.
Lead gives a deep, clear impression. Plastic seals come in colours for quick identification. For outdoor use, aluminium seals with stainless steel sealing wire are the most durable choice.
