Goods need to reach their destination intact, complete and on time. A lot can happen along the way. Cargo can shift, topple or get damaged, leading to delays and extra costs. On top of that, there is the risk of theft. The right products keep cargo in place and show straight away whether anything has happened in transit.

Why transport security matters

The risks in transport are varied. An emergency stop, a sharp bend or a bumpy road is enough to make poorly secured cargo shift. That damages the goods themselves, and sometimes the vehicle or the packaging of other shipments too.

Theft also plays a major role. According to TAPA, an international organisation for the security of goods flows, around 13,000 thefts or attempted thefts were reported in the latest research period, mostly in Europe. The United Kingdom and Germany top the list. The Netherlands ranks fourth, with 727 reports. Notably, the value of stolen goods in the Netherlands tripled compared with the previous period. Good transport security therefore has two parts. The cargo must stay firmly in place, and any interference along the way must be visible.

Dunnage bags: stability in the load space

Dunnage bags fill the empty space between pallets, or between the cargo and the wall of the load space. They are inflated with a compressor or air gun and press the cargo into place. This stops it from shifting or toppling during the journey. Dunnage bags come in different sizes, matching the width of the gap to be filled. Part of the range is suitable for multiple trips.

Lashing straps: cargo held in place

Lashing straps hold cargo down on the floor of a truck, van or trailer. One-piece straps suit light applications, while two-piece straps with a ratchet are designed for heavier loads. The key is matching the strap to the weight of the cargo. The maximum load is shown on the strap’s label and in the product description. Navacqs lashing straps comply with the European standard EN 12195-2, which sets requirements for strength, material and labelling.

Seals: making tampering visible

A seal shows at a glance whether a door, container or package has been opened in transit. There are several types, each with its own application:

  • Pull-tight seals for roll cages, crates, bags and smaller doors

  • Cable seals with a flexible steel cable, also suitable for tight or bent locking points

  • High security seals for containers in international transport, certified to ISO/PAS 17712

Every seal carries a unique number. By recording that number at departure and checking it on arrival, it can be confirmed whether the cargo has remained untouched. This matters most for valuable or sensitive shipments, such as luxury goods and medical supplies. It also helps with insurer requirements and with disputes over damage or loss.
