The Tyden Ball Seal is a trusted metal fixed length seal approved by European customs authorities. Designed over 60 years ago and still widely used today, its simple yet highly reliable design has made it a standard choice in the transport industry. With a high breaking strength of 52 kg, it provides dependable security for trucks, TIR cables, and containers used for intra-EU transport. Each seal is uniquely numbered and printed for easy identification and traceability. Note: Containers shipped outside the European Union must be secured with a High Security Seal compliant with ISO 17712:2013.
The Tyden Ball Seal is one of the few seals in the Navacqs range approved by Dutch Customs for transport within the European Union. This approval allows goods to be safely transported between EU countries without additional sealing requirements. For international shipments outside the EU, a High Security Seal meeting ISO 17712:2013 standards is required.
The Tyden Ball Seal features a time-tested construction that has remained unchanged for over six decades. Its durable steel strap and precision-engineered locking ball ensure consistent reliability. The metal insert inside the ball functions as a locking mechanism: once the strap clicks into place, the seal is permanently secured. A distinct clicking sound confirms proper locking.
Made from high-quality steel, the Tyden Ball Seal offers exceptional strength with a breaking load of 52 kg. This level of durability prevents the seal from being removed by hand — cutting tools are required for removal. Despite its strength, the seal can be applied quickly and easily by hand, without any special equipment.
The Tyden Ball Seal is designed for heavy-duty transport applications. Its narrow strap fits easily through the end loops of TIR cables, making it a popular choice for securing truck tarpaulins and rear doors. It also fits standard locking mechanisms on truck and trailer doors. Additionally, it can be used to seal containers used for transport within the European Union. For intercontinental shipping, however, a certified High Security Seal is required.
Every Tyden Ball Seal is produced with a unique serial number and permanent imprint, ensuring complete traceability. Once locked, the seal cannot be reopened without visible signs of tampering. This provides a clear visual indication of any unauthorized access.

A Tyden Ball Seal is a metal fixed length seal with a breaking strength of around 52 kg. The seal consists of a steel strap and a round head containing a metal click mechanism.
When closing, you slide the strap into the head. Inside is a small metal ball that clicks into place and prevents the strap from moving back. This keeps the seal permanently closed.
The seal is applied by hand and can only be removed with pliers.
Applications:
TIR cables
trucks
container transport within the EU
A Tyden Ball Seal is used to seal TIR cables and trucks where a high breaking strength is needed and opening should only be possible with tools.
The steel strap is thin enough to pass through the eyes of a TIR cable, but strong enough not to break by hand. This makes the seal suitable for transport where control matters and unwanted opening needs to be prevented.
In practice:
you thread the strap through the TIR cable or closure
you push the strap into the head until you feel a click
the seal stays firmly in place during transport
opening is done with pliers
The Tyden Ball Seal has a breaking strength of around 52 kg. This means the seal can't be opened by hand.
The strength comes from:
the steel strap
the metal click mechanism in the head
Under load, the material doesn't deform the way plastic does, so the seal stays intact under pulling force on the closure.

Plastic Truck Seal: 28 kg
Tyden Ball Seal: 52 kg
For transport within the European Union, a seal isn't tied to a fixed ISO standard. In practice, customs-approved metal fixed length seals such as the Tyden Ball Seal are used.
For transport outside the EU, a seal is mandatory under the ISO 17712:2013 standard. This means a container must be closed with a high security bolt seal.
The difference lies in customs requirements:
within the EU → a customs-approved seal is sufficient
outside the EU → an ISO 17712:2013 certified seal is mandatory
This distinction matters, because the wrong type of seal can lead to rejection or extra checks at border crossings.
