The Abloy® PL358T is a padlock with a 14 mm boron steel shackle, a Protec² cylinder and CEN Grade 5. It carries the SKG quality mark and resists corrosion, freezing and wear. The lock comes with two keys and a key certificate.
Boron steel is steel with a small addition of boron. After hardening, this makes it considerably harder than ordinary steel. Shackle and body are chrome plated, and the internal parts are treated against rust. The lock therefore keeps working in salty and wet conditions.
The European standard for padlocks divides locks into grades. Testing includes how long the shackle and body resist sawing and drilling. The longer a lock holds out, the higher its grade. The PL358T is rated Grade 5.
The cylinder works with rotating discs instead of springs. On closing, two steel balls lock the shackle on both sides. With no springs inside, fewer parts can wear out or freeze.
Every Protec² key contains a rotating ball. As a result, the keys cannot be copied by a key cutter or with a 3D printer. Extra keys can only be ordered from Navacqs or ASSA Abloy on presentation of the key certificate. On request, the locks are available keyed alike or as part of a master key system.
The PL358T holds CEN class 5, also known as "Extra High Security". CEN is the European standard for padlocks, ranging from class 1 to 6. Locks are tested for drilling, cutting and manipulation resistance. Class 5 is the second-highest class.
Yes. The Protec² cylinder uses rotating discs instead of springs and pins. Traditional pin cylinders are vulnerable to lock picking, discs are not. An added benefit: the cylinder doesn't freeze and shows almost no wear.
No. The Protec² key cannot be copied, not even with a 3D printer. Additional keys are ordered through Navacqs or ASSA Abloy using your key certificate.
The SBS PL7000 is well suited to everyday container security on construction sites and in transport. Use the Abloy PL358T for higher-risk situations: valuable cargo, maritime environments, or situations where sabotage is a real concern. The difference lies in the cylinder. The Protec² disc cylinder withstands manipulation and extreme weather conditions that a standard cylinder cannot handle.
Boron steel is harder than regular steel, which makes the PL358T's shackle more resistant to sawing or cutting. Its chrome-plated coating adds extra protection against rust and seawater.
