The IF-91 is ideal for safely stacking empty containers. On open container yards, containers can slide due to strong wind gusts. The Depot Stacker ensures stable securing between empty containers on a container depot. Thanks to its smart design, the IF-91 is a very cost-effective solution for securing and stacking containers. It is a minimalist alternative to the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 and, unlike a twistlock, the IF-91 does not lock. The exact dimensions of the Depot Stacker IF-91 can be found in the technical drawing.
For stacking empty containers, the Depot Stacker IF-91 is the perfect solution. The Depot Stacker IF-91 is manually placed into the corner castings of a container. The stackers are highly suitable for stacking empty containers at terminals and depots. The IF-91 cannot be locked manually for additional safety, as is possible with the IF-51. When containers are stacked to full height, using the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 is recommended.
The IF-91 differs from the IF-51 Intermediate Twistlock in two key ways. Firstly, the IF-91 Depot Stackers can be placed even when the container corner is not within hand reach. This supports faster stacking of containers. Secondly, the IF-91 does not need to be locked. This saves time and avoids the practical challenge of rotating the handle at height. One consequence of the IF-91 not locking is that it is only suitable for stacking containers on the terminal or depot floor. For stacking containers on board a vessel, both the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 and the Semi Automatic Twistlock IF-56 are suitable options.
The Depot Stacker IF-91 ensures stable securing between empty containers on a container depot. On open container yards, strong wind gusts can cause empty containers to slide. The IF-91 prevents containers from sliding apart from each other. The contact point of the Depot Stacker sits in the corner casting of the container.
When containers must be secured and vertically locked, the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 is a suitable option. For horizontal coupling of containers, a bridge fitting is suitable.
Thanks to its smart design, the IF-91 is a very cost-effective option for securing and stacking containers. The IF-91 is a relatively compact stacker where material use is minimised without compromising strength. Additionally, the IF-91 has no rotating parts, unlike the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51. This makes the IF-91 highly durable and suitable for long-term intensive use.
Placing the Depot Stacker is very easy thanks to the practical design. With a simple rotation, the stacker can be placed from below into the container’s corner casting.
The Depot Stacker IF-91 is manufactured from high-quality galvanised steel (SCW480). This protects the Depot Stacker against weather conditions and seawater. The protective layer prevents corrosion, ensuring the stackers can be used for a very long time.
A depot stacker is a tool for stably placing empty sea containers on top of each other without locking them. The stacker is placed in the corner castings of containers and keeps them neatly positioned.
Depot stackers are used at container depots and terminals where empty containers are temporarily stored. They prevent containers from shifting off each other, for example due to wind or slight movement.
Unlike a twistlock, a depot stacker provides positioning, not a fixed lock.
A depot stacker is used when stacking empty containers on land, where speed and simplicity matter. Because no locking is needed, work can proceed faster.
The main difference is that a depot stacker doesn't lock. A twistlock rotates and secures itself in the corner casting of the container, genuinely fixing it, while a depot stacker only prevents containers from shifting.
A twistlock is therefore used when containers genuinely need to be fixed, for example during transport or when stacking full containers.
Brief difference:
depot stacker → positioning empty containers
twistlock → locking containers
A depot stacker is therefore suitable for storage, not transport.
A depot stacker is placed by hand in the corner casting of a container before the next container is set on top. The point of the stacker drops into the corner casting of the container above and holds it in place.
No lever or mechanism is needed. The stacker keeps the containers properly aligned and prevents shifting.
Because there's no locking involved, the top container can easily be picked up again.
Empty containers are relatively light and can shift in wind or vibration when stacked. A depot stacker prevents this by guiding the containers onto each other and keeping them in position.
You see this, for example, at container depots where large numbers of empty containers are temporarily stored. Without an aid, these containers can go out of alignment in strong wind.
With depot stackers, the containers stay directly above one another, keeping the stack tidy and stable.
Four depot stackers are needed to stack two containers. One stacker is placed on each corner of the container.
Each stacker ensures the top container stays neatly in the correct position. Using fewer than four means the container isn't stable and can shift.
In practice, this means:
4 stackers per additional container layer
one stacker per corner point
When stacking multiple layers, a new set of four depot stackers is used per layer.
