The Lashing Chain is a steel chain for securing heavy cargo during transport. With hooks on both ends, you attach the chain easily to the cargo and to lashing points on board. Combined with the Tension Lever, you pull the chain taut, so the cargo can no longer shift. The Lashing Chain is DNV GL certified and suitable for use on classified vessels.
The steel chain has a length of 6 metres and links with a diameter of 13 mm. Combined with the Tension Lever, you set the length as needed and pull the chain taut, so the cargo stays firmly in place during transport.
Both ends of the Lashing Chain feature steel hooks. These let you attach the chain quickly to the cargo and to lashing points or fastening eyes on board.
Thanks to a breaking strength of 200 kN (20 T), the Lashing Chain is suitable for securing heavy cargo during transport at sea. It's also a reliable choice for RoRo transport, where vehicles and machinery are driven on and off board. Think of trucks, agricultural machinery and earthmoving equipment.
The Lashing Chain is tested and certified by DNV GL. This certification allows you to use the chain on DNV GL classified vessels.
The strength of the Lashing Chain is expressed in two ways: breaking strength and Working Load Limit (WLL). Both values are stated on the DNV GL certificate. The breaking strength is 200 kN (20 T) and the WLL is 100 kN (10 T).
A lashing chain is used to secure heavy cargo during transport, so it can't shift due to movement, vibration or wave motion.
In practice, you see this with:
trucks on RoRo ships
agricultural machinery
steel structures or heavy units
The chain is attached to lashing points and provides a direct, mechanical connection between the cargo and the surface.
A lashing chain is used for heavy cargo where a lashing strap isn't sufficient. Chains can withstand higher forces and are more resistant to sharp edges and wear.
For example:
steel structures with sharp corners
machinery with protruding parts
cargo with high weight (several tonnes)
Where a strap can cut in or become damaged, a chain stays intact.
Yes, a lashing chain always needs to be tightened with a chain tensioner. Without a tensioner, the chain stays loose, and the cargo can still move.
The tensioner ensures:
the chain becomes taut
slack disappears
the cargo is genuinely secured
Without tension, there's no effective lashing.
