With the Intermediate Twistlock IF-51, sea containers can be stacked easily and safely. This manually operated twistlock is designed for vertical locking between standard ISO containers and provides a reliable solution for applications on vessels, terminals and custom-built constructions.
You place the IF-51 twistlock between the corners (corner castings) of two containers. After placement, you turn the handle manually, firmly locking the containers together. This twistlock is suitable for stacking both empty and loaded containers, as long as hoisting or transport is involved.
Note: The IF-51 is intended exclusively for locking and not for lifting or transport over the road.
The IF-51 fits standard container corner castings to ISO 1161. This makes it suitable for bulktainers and custom structures fitted with these corner castings as well.
The IF-51 is available in both left- and right-locking versions. Which one you choose depends on your preference or work process. Many users choose a combination of 2 left- and 2 right-locking units per container, so the handles point inward when correctly locked. Prefer simplicity? Choose one locking direction for faster placement without mistakes.
The housing of this twistlock is made from galvanized steel (40Cr) and finished with a corrosion-resistant coating. This makes the IF-51 resistant to harsh weather conditions, saltwater and wear which makes it ideal for long-term use in the maritime sector.
Internally, the twistlock is equipped with a sealed bearing and a spring mechanism. This construction prevents the handle from unintentionally shifting, even under vibration or external load. You can therefore work with confidence, even in demanding environments.
A twistlock is a mechanical locking device used to secure sea containers firmly on top of each other. The lock engages in the corner castings of containers and prevents them from shifting or coming loose during transport or storage.
Twistlocks are used when stacking containers on ships, terminals and for temporary storage. By linking containers together, they stay firmly in place and don't shift due to movement during transport or handling.
The Intermediate Twistlock IF-51 is a manual variant where the lock is activated with a lever.
A twistlock is placed in the corner castings of the bottom container. When the top container is set down on it, the openings fall over the twistlock. Turning the lever rotates the locking points and secures them in both containers.
The metal head rotates inside the corner casting and blocks the opening. This means the containers can no longer come apart without turning the lever back.
With manual twistlocks, this happens after placing the container, so the user decides when the lock is engaged.
Four twistlocks are needed to link two containers. One twistlock is placed on each corner of the container.
Each twistlock connects one corner point of the top container to the bottom one. Without four attachment points, the stack isn't stable and the container can shift or tilt.
For multiple layers of containers, a new set of four twistlocks is used per layer.
A manual twistlock is used when control and precision matter more than speed. The lock only becomes active after the lever has been turned by hand.
This type is often used for:
custom constructions, such as steel frames or platforms fitted with container corner castings
setups that stay in place for longer periods, such as containers temporarily stacked on a construction site or storage yard
The user sees and feels when the lock engages, so mistakes are noticed more quickly.
