The Breech Base Deck Socket DF-66 is a deck socket specially developed for use with the Breech Base Twistlock BF-66 and the Breech Base Lashing Eye LP-21. Thanks to its design, these components are removable, keeping the deck free of protruding parts. The deck socket is made from heavy cast steel (SCW480) and has a tested breaking strength of 500 kN (50 tonnes). The outside is treated with a protective primer.
The DF-66 makes it possible to fit and remove twistlocks and lashing eyes with ease. The BF-66 twistlock is used to secure shipping containers, while the LP-21 lashing eye is ideal for securing heavy cargo. Useful for changing loads: containers one day, machinery or structures the next.
Unlike the DF-31, the twistlocks and lashing eyes on the DF-66 can be fitted from above. They lock by turning a quarter turn, which means they can be used in four directions. This top-entry design is ideal for locations with limited space and makes the DF-66 suitable for flush mounting, for example on a ship or pontoon.
The DF-66 can be welded directly to a steel surface, such as a ship's deck, an offshore structure or a trailer. The primer doesn't need to be removed beforehand. Welding instructions are available via our website.
The DF-66 features four locking points that prevent twistlocks or lashing eyes from coming loose. Both the BF-66 and the LP-21 lashing eye click firmly into place and stay put even under heavy loads.
For precise dimensions, both a PDF drawing and an .STP file are available. This makes it easy to integrate the deck socket into a CAD design.
There are different ways of placing and locking.
With the DF-31, the twistlock slides into the base plate. With the DF-66, the twistlock is placed from above and then turned a quarter turn to lock it.
As a result:
DF-31 → sliding in from the side
DF-66 → placing from above + turning
The DF-66 is more practical in situations with little room to slide something in.
A breech base base plate is used when there's little space around the mounting point. Because the twistlock is placed from above, no room is needed at the side.
You see this, for example:
on ship decks with limited working space
between structural parts with little clearance
for recessed mounting in the deck
This allows for faster, easier work in tight spaces.
The DF-66 has built-in locking points that prevent a twistlock or lashing eye from coming loose during use.
After placement, the component is turned a quarter turn, locking it behind these points.
This ensures:
the fitting can't vibrate loose
the load is transferred safely
the twistlock stays firmly in place
The DF-66 is the better choice when flexibility in direction and limited space matter.
Choose the DF-66 for:
mounting in hard-to-reach places
applications worked on from above
situations requiring multiple load directions
The DF-31 is simpler and quicker to use, while the DF-66 offers more flexibility in placement.
